Kenton Johnson, Lead Pastor

After graduating from Macalester College in 1971, Kent was ordained as an elder in
the United Methodist Church in 1979. He was appointed Associate Pastor to
Richfield UMC in 1977, followed by an appointment as Senior Pastor at Duluth
University UMC in 1985. Kent has been Excelsior UMC's Senior Pastor since 1994.
An avid sailor, canoeist, and camper, Kent's love of the outdoors makes him a
favorite with the Youth of EUMC.

Nate Melcher, Director of Youth & Young Adults

Nate became Youth Director at Excelsior UMC in August, 2005 and has been
Director of Youth & Young Adult Ministries since July, 2008. Nate is the Dean of
L.Y.F.E. Camp - Week One, and leads / co-leads all youth groups at EUMC. He is
starting up new groups aimed particularly at young adults, ages 18-35.
Nate holds a BA in Film Studies and a MFA in Creative Writing. He coaches youth
and adult improv performance teams and tours with his own improv show. He
enjoys writing, cartooning, playing the ukulele, and gets kind of crabby around 3:00
am during youth lock-in events.
