Rev. Kent Johnson, Pastor

After graduating from Macalester College in 1971, Kent was ordained as an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1979. He was appointed Associate Pastor of Richfield UMC in 1977 and Senior Pastor of Duluth University UMC in 1985. He has served as Excelsior UMC's Senior Pastor since 1994. An avid sailor, canoeist, and camper, Kent's love of the outdoors makes him a favorite with the youth of Excelsior UMC.


Kay Robinson, Children's Ministries Co-Director

After serving a year with other parent volunteers on our Children's Council, Kay took on full responsibilities of the Christian Education Coordinator for our KOOL Program in 2010.



Gail Johnson, Administrative Assistant

Gail has been serving Excelsior UMC since 2009 and has many years experience as a United Methodist Church administrative assistant. You can usually reach Gail in the office between 8:00am-4:00pm on Mondays through Thursdays and 8:00am-12:00pm on Fridays to get connected on the happenings at EUMC.

Nate Melcher, Dir. of Youth &Young Adult Ministry

Nate has served Excelsior UMC since 2005 and  is a dean of LYFE Camp. He holds a BA in Film Studies, an MFA in Creative Writing, and is an M.Div student at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities and a UMC ordination candidate. Nate enjoys writing, reading, playing ukulele, and taking road trips with his wife and daughter, Kelly and Gertie. He coaches improv performance teams, tours with his solo musical improv show, and gets crabby around 3am at youth lock-ins.

Brenda Dummer, Children's Ministries Co-Director

Brenda joined our staff in 2011 to assist with vivid children's ministry, including KOOL, Vacation Bible School, and the Christmas Pageant. She and her husband have two children in our KOOL program.


Gail Fisk, Music Director

Gail has been making sure our worship services are filled with joyful sounds for over fifteen years. She directs the Chancel Choir and other musical ensembles both for voice and instrumental and often accompanies them on the piano.

Jane Kuhn, Organist
